Privacy Policy
gencam is a camera app, and we've tried to keep the data footprint as small as possible:
- Your photos and videos never leave your device.
- There are no accounts — nothing to sign up for, nothing for us to store.
- We do not look at the contents of your images. No face detection, no scene analysis, no biometric processing of any kind.
- For diagnostics only, the app sends anonymized crash and usage data through Firebase.
The rest of this page covers the details.
What stays on your device
Everything you capture or import is written to your device's storage and never travels to us. We don't receive your photos, your videos, your audio, or the EXIF metadata attached to them. If you uninstall gencam, anything already saved to your photo library stays there because we never touched it; if you delete a capture from your library, it is gone — we cannot help you get it back.
Diagnostic data we receive
The only information that leaves your device for our benefit is anonymized telemetry sent through Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics. This includes things like your device model, OS version, a Firebase-assigned anonymous identifier, IP address (used briefly for region-level statistics and then discarded), and the timestamp and configuration around any crash event.
These services do not identify you by name, and we cannot reverse-engineer your identity from what reaches us.
Permissions gencam may ask for
Each permission is requested on demand — the first time a feature actually needs it — and you can revoke any of them later from your phone's Settings.
- Camera — to take photos and record video. Without it, the shutter doesn't work.
- Photo Library — to write your captures into your library, and to read existing items you want to bring into gencam.
- Microphone — used while you record video with sound. Decline this and your videos will be silent.
- Location — optional and off by default. Enable it only if you want GPS coordinates written into your photo metadata.
When you email us
If you write to support, your email client will hand us your address along with the message. We use that information to reply to you and, occasionally, to spot patterns in user feedback. It is not passed to advertisers, marketers, or any other third party.
Outbound links
A few screens in the app may link out to other websites — for example, this Privacy Policy itself, or a help article. Once you tap a link, you are on someone else's site, governed by their privacy practices rather than ours.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have legal rights to access, correct, or delete personal information held about you. Because the only personal-ish data we receive is anonymized Firebase telemetry we cannot tie back to you, we usually have nothing to show, correct, or delete on our end. For anything you have sent us by email, write to the address below and we will do what we can.
You can also cut off the diagnostic stream entirely by limiting analytics in your device settings, denying the relevant permissions, or uninstalling the app.
Updates to this policy
If we change anything material, we will bump the effective date at the top of this page. There is no other notification channel — we don't have your email unless you have written to us first.
